Building Structures Using Cross Laminated Timber Panels

cross laminated timber panels used for buildingsDo you know that you can use timber to build an entire building? Yes, that is possible! Cross Laminated Timber or CLT is considered the “manufactured wood of the future”. It was initially introduced in Switzerland in 1970s and it was known to be manufactured similarly with how they manufacture plywood. A CLT panel looks like a plywood, but many times bigger.

CLT is also becoming popular in Europe because it is being used extensively as a feasible option to traditional building methods. Cross-laminating layers of wood strengthen the structural attributes of wood making it strong enough to be used as floors, walls and roofs.

While CLT is a timber product, it shouldn’t be regarded as a timber frame product – it’s a timber panel product which in fact has related traits to that particular of the pre-cast concrete panel.  The benefits of this attribute is very fascinating –  timber panels tend to be lighter in weight compared to cement, easier to work with and simpler to assemble.
